Rinse the reservoir with mild soap and warm water, then hang it upside down to dry completely. For a deep clean, reverse the reservoir inside out and scrub it, or fill it with warm water and a Bottle Bright tablet – one tablet or two for 3L and larger – let it sit 15 to 30 minutes, and rinse. HydraPak reservoirs are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
Drying completely is the most important step – mold and odor come from storing a reservoir while it is still damp. Reverse the reservoir or hang it upside down with the opening propped open so air circulates and all moisture evaporates, which can take several hours. In humid climates, HydraPak recommends storing a clean, fully dry reservoir in the freezer to prevent mold growth between uses.
Yes. HydraPak reservoirs are made from BPA- and PVC-free TPU and can be frozen, which is useful for keeping water cold on hot days or for clearing lingering tastes. You can also fill one with warm water up to 60C / 140F. Avoid freezing a reservoir completely full, since water expands as it freezes – this could damage your reservoir.
Rinse and dry after every use, and do a full deep clean whenever you have put anything other than plain water inside, such as electrolyte mix or sports drink, since sugary residue breeds bacteria quickly. For water-only use, a thorough cleaning every few uses is enough. Always dry it completely before storage.
