Water Storage FAQ

Frequently asked questions on HydraPak water storage systems.

HydraPak offers the Seeker in 2L, 3L, 4L, 6L, and 10L. For a solo overnight, 2 to 3L is usually enough; for groups, base camp, or dry stretches, choose 4L or more. Plan for roughly a liter per person per hour of active use, plus extra for cooking and cleanup.

A typical backcountry setup pairs a hydration reservoir or bottle for drinking on the move with a collapsible storage bag like the Seeker for camp, plus a filter to make natural water safe and potable. The Seeker collects and stores several liters, then you filter into clean containers as needed, so you are not making repeated trips to the water source.

Yes. The Seeker's large 42mm opening threads onto most 42mm filters, including the HydraPak 42mm Filter Cap and the Katadyn BeFree, so you can build a gravity filter setup. The Seeker+ versions come with an integrated hollow-fiber filter already built in. Seekers with our Plug-N-Play Cap fit our 28mm Filter Kit, which works great as a gravity filter setup when paired with the Camp Tap (Camp Tap included with 6L and 10L Seekers).

Very. The Seeker is made of flexible, abrasion-resistant TPU with RF-welded seams that folds or crushes down to about the size of a fist and packs into an included storage bag. It weighs little, disappears in your pack when empty, then expands to full capacity when filled, unlike rigid jugs.

Yes. The Seeker can be frozen to use as an ice pack and for cold drinking water, or filled with hot water up to 60C / 140F to help keep you warm. The durable TPU construction handles both ends of the range, and an external capacity gauge helps you measure contents.
